In the design and/or replacement of roofing systems, particular attention is typically provided for continuity in air, vapour, and waterproofing protection. However, frequently overlooked are the structural requirements pertaining to roof design and secondary drainage considerations due to uplift, snow loads, and rain loads.
This presentation will help inform on the design considerations that are required for Code compliance whether your system is SBS modified bitumen, metal, shingled, adhered, and/or mechanically anchored. Although often overlooked in the design process, many roofing systems will continue to experience changes in climate exposure over their design service life. Climate change adaptation is an important consideration to ensure that performance expectations are commensurate with your budget, particularly with respect to secondary drainage. Case examples will also be provided from the authors files in which unique considerations were required in the design.
